Located about 48 miles from New York City, lies the town of New Canaan. In 1731, the area was established as Canaan Parish, a religious entity, where residents were able to vote, pay taxes, serve on juries, and file deeds for their homes. The town was incorporated in 1801 and given the name New Canaan. When the railroad came around in the 19th century, the area began to expand, especially as many passengers visited from New York City escaping from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Eventually, those visiting decided to move into the area because they liked it so much. The town began expanding with many residential buildings, premiere shopping areas, and more.
